Inbound Leads: What They Are and How I’m Positioning Myself to Attract Them

I used to hear people say, “I got this gig from inbound leads.” And honestly? I had no idea what they meant.

How do you get opportunities without applying for them? How do clients find you instead of you pitching them?

So, I did some digging — and now, I’m actively working on positioning myself to attract inbound leads.

Let’s break it down.

What Are Inbound Leads?

Inbound leads are opportunities that come to you instead of you chasing them.

Think of it like this: instead of cold-pitching clients or applying for multiple jobs, inbound leads happen when:

✅ A recruiter finds your LinkedIn profile and reaches out

✅ A brand reads your content and thinks, “This is exactly what we need”

✅ Someone refers you because they’ve seen your expertise firsthand

It’s the opposite of outbound leads, where you have to cold pitch, network aggressively, or apply for roles. (I’ll talk about outbound leads in another post — stay tuned!)

But inbound leads don’t just happen. You have to position yourself for them. Here’s how I’m doing it.

How I’m Positioning Myself for Inbound Leads

Since learning about inbound leads, I’ve made intentional changes to make sure I’m discoverable and hirable. Here’s what I’ve been implementing:

  1. Optimizing My LinkedIn Profile

I refined my headline, about section, and featured media to clearly communicate what I do and who I help.

Your profile is your first impression — treat it like your digital storefront.

2. Posting Value-Packed Content

I’m sharing insights, tips, and experiences related to content writing, research, and digital marketing.

The goal? To become top of mind when people think of these skills.

3. Engaging with Industry Experts

Instead of just scrolling and lurking, I actively comment, share my thoughts, and contribute to discussions in my niche.

Visibility = opportunities. The more you engage, the more people notice you.

4. Using Keywords for Discoverability

I optimized my profile and content with relevant keywords like:

📝 Copywriting

📢 Content marketing

🎭 Storytelling

These ensure that when people search for writers, I actually show up.

5. Making It Easy to Contact Me

My LinkedIn DMs are open, and I added a clear call-to-action in my bio.

No one should struggle to reach you if they want to work with you.

Inbound leads don’t happen overnight. You build credibility, and then the opportunities follow.

I’m still refining my strategy, but one thing I know for sure: consistency is key.
