If making a captivating intro video to attract an audience for your side hustle seems like too much of a challenge, you’re not alone. In a world full of experienced YouTubers and dedicated Tiktok artists, it’s easy to feel like you’re not up to the task.
Luckily, there’s always a simpler (often underlooked) way to achieve your goals.
Headliner allows you to create simple but striking videos to promote your podcast or other side project. It’s very easy to use and pairs well with Canva (I’ve written a beginner’s guide to using Canva here).
So without further ado, let’s get started on the steps to making your first promotional video!
2. Add some text and a graphic to each of the ‘slides’ you’d like in your intro video. My advice is to keep things as simple as possible to begin with.
3. Next, download your slides.
4. Your next step is to record an audio file in which you talk through the slides, explaining your side business. You can do this easily using a voice or notes recorder on your phone (phones these days record sound surprisingly well). Then send the audio file to your computer.
5. Now it’s time to start using Headliner! Signing up for an account is very easy. All that’s required is an email address and password.
6. Next, click on ‘create’ and then on ‘Advanced editor’.
7. You can then choose between creating a ‘Landscape’ video (for YouTube and websites), ‘Square’ (for Instagram, Twitter and Facebook) and Portrait (for Instagram Stories, Snapchat and Tiktok). As you can see, Headliner has you covered no matter what social media account you’d like to begin promoting your business on.
8. Inside the Headliner Editor, click on Audio and upload the audio file that you had recorded previously.
9. Next, click on ‘Media’ as shown below.
8. Now you’re ready to upload the slides you created in Canva.
9. Once your slides are uploaded, you can drag the end of each slide in the timeline (see below) to extend/shorten its duration in the video so that it matches your audio file.
10. Once you’re satisfied with your video, click on export (below).
11. You can now export your finished video from Headliner (you’re allowed to export a generous 5 unwatermarked videos per month) and upload it to your website!
Having an intro video on your business website is a huge upgrade — it will allow you to speak directly to potential customers in your in your own voice and explain the product or service you’re offering to them. Best of all, Canva and Headliner allow you to make one for free!
What have you got to lose? Try making one today and you’ll be surprised by how simple it is.
Best of all, you’ll start to feel like a professional video-maker in no time.
Take that, YouTube stars!
