University of Salford is preparing me for successful digital marketing career, this is how
When you nurse an idea for a long time, it becomes like your baby and letting it go is difficult. I have attended a few courses and obtained professional certifications in Public Relations but getting a second degree had remained a priority. So, when I got admission to study Digital Marketing at the University of Salford, England, it was an icing on the cake for me.
With my PR background and now, hands-on digital marketing training as offered by the university, the foundation for a successful marketing communication career is being laid.
I am currently studying at the Salford Business School (SBS) located in the serene and beautiful Peel Park campus, just a few minutes from the Manchester city centre.
Quality modules, expertly delivered
What defines education for me is its practicality and ability to solve problems. In this regard, The University of Salford is offering ideal education which will help me become the content marketing specialist that I aspire to be. The four Modules in the course were designed with me in mind, it appears. Digital marketing communication has always been one of my core interests. I am also, deeply interested in search engine optimisation, digital marketing analytics and strategy as well as search and social media marketing which is helping me develop core competencies in social media content creation. The school offers an outstanding learning facility as well as opportunities for active and practical engagement with the industry, which has so far been a rewarding experience for me. I believe that studying in this important institution is helping develop my skills and providing a significant boost to my professional career.
Also, academic support is available to students to enable them succeed in their studies. I find this support very useful as an international student, new to the British education system.
Digital Marketing as a course in the school is accredited by the Chattered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and the modules are handled by industry experts and consultants. In the course of my study, I have met and shared thoughts with professional and aspiring content creators and curators within and outside the university campus. These engagements have given me insights into the latest thinking in the sector, including success tips.
Employability training programmes
I began my Public Relations career in Lagos Nigeria where I worked as a Senior Executive for strategy and media. It is important to mention that my experience as a business journalist and knowledge of the challenges faced by entrepreneurs were useful in my new career. I was able to work with clients to recommend strategy for executing marketing campaigns as well as explore and identify ways to integrate social media into business strategies and advertising. My role also, included content writing, interpreting clients’ briefs, and designing strategic messages and channels (traditional and digital) to communicate them.
Here in the university, I have realised that employability is embedded in every of the four modules that I am taking. For each course, there is a practical aspect which to me is an added advantage for career growth in digital marketing. In the last few weeks, I have attended at least four of such seminars and I would say they have been very useful. During those events, I was able to meet face to face with potential employers and discuss career opportunities.
Welfare support
The University not only provides academic support, it, also offers welfare support to students, especially international students like me. The University’s askUS team provides support for things that are outside of studies. It provides counselling, guidance, and referrals on a plethora of issues from accommodation to jobs, to enhance students’ experience.
