What really is digital marketing? And how to make money with it in 60 mins
Let’s talk about social media marketing, or also called digital marketing. I’m going to use these two phrases interchangeably.
Whether you are new to this, or you’ve been around for a while, selling services or products on social media is THE BEST BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY IN THE 21ST century.
If you want to make money, there’s no better way than to start and grow an online business — and most notably, to sell digital products or services using social media.
Heck, social media is free to use! And it reaches millions of people!
At the beginning of the business, I got sucked into the social media swirl and would spent hours and hours consuming content (I told myself that I’m learning) before I created one little piece of mediocre content…. Not a very smart strategy!
Over the years, I’ve created a strategy that helped me to grow my online business using social media organically (i.e. no paid ads involved).
And the best thing? It only takes me 60 mins a day.
Yes, you read that right! Only 60 mins a day!
Sticking to this 60 mins social media marketing (or digital marketing) is a CRITICAL TURNING POINT because it allows me to reclaim my life and build the business around my lifestyle, otherwise I would have spent all my waking hours “working” and “building” the business.
In other words, it allows me to WORK LESS, AND MAKE MORE MONEY.
Because one of the things I’ve learnt over the years of building my business is that although social media is awesome, it’s free, it reaches people, it can also be extremely time consuming.
Before I realised it, I’ve spent the WHOLE DAY online, feeling productive but in fact doing close to nothing and generating bare minimal results in the business.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who fall into this trap.
That’s contrary to my goal — which is to sell my digital products or services and grow the business with as little time as possible and have more free time on my own or travelling with my family.
And heck! I was still working in a 9–7 job when I started the business so you can imagine all the time suck by social media in the limited hours I’ve left outside of work. I ended up not really moving the needles and stressed a ton about why my business is not growing…
I know I’m not the only one getting stuck in an online business.
We intend to use social media for our purpose (to sell more and make bank) but in reality we are being used by social media without awareness!
We need to stop that and have a strategy and plan for social media marketing!
I’m going to share with you exactly what I do and when I do it in order to grow the business on social media in 60 mins or less a day (Monday to Friday).
I’m breaking down the steps here so you can see how simple and effective selling digital products or services on social media can be.
Step 1:
Knowing who your perfect customer is
Before you even consider what to create for your first social media content, you could get better results if you consider and spend the time on understanding who your perfect customers is first.
WHO you’re creating content for?
TRUTH TRUTH: you could have the best product in the world, but if you’re not reaching the right person, you’ll make $0 sales at the end of day.
So as much as product or service quality matters, it only matters if you are reaching and targeting the right tribe.
So understanding your target customers is SO, SO, SUPER IMPORTANT.
More than important than how do you create your first post or content — yet many of us when we think about selling digital products or services online, the first thing we would jump right into is content creation. That’s why many of us are not getting the desired results on social media sales.
If you’re not 100% sure who need your digital products or services, or who you’re selling them to, or who is going to buy your digital products or services, you need to take a step back and get clear on the target customers first.
To aid you on that, I’ve created How I Discovered My Target Customers with 7 Questions
Step 2:
Choose the platform
Second thing to do for an highly effective social media marketing strategy is to avoid spreading ourselves thin among all the various platforms.
I get it!
We saw that the 7 figure business owners are on multiple platforms and we want to do the same to make the same level of money. But we overlooked that they build their empires throughout years! Not days, not months — a lot of them have been in business for a decade or more to accumulate significant content and followers on each of these platforms.
The best thing one can do, starting out, is to stick to one platform and put all your focus there.
Each platform has different requirements for content — in terms of formats (text, video, audio, graphics or combination of these), sizes, major audience groups…. It would be IMPOSSIBLE to master all of these platforms at the same time.
I thought I can master, but ended up making a mess and none of the platforms work.
Especially if you’re in the early phrase of growing the business, bouncing from one social media platform to another (and to yet another) all the time is going to end up nowhere.
There’s a wisdom saying that “The Person Who Chases Two Rabbits Catches Neither” — that’s VERY TRUE when it comes to social media marketing.
Where you focus on expands — if you focus on IG, your IG account is going to get results. If you focus on FB, FB is going to get results for your business. If you focus on both, neither is going to get results.
In picking the platform that you want to focus on, always pick the one where your target customers are hanging out (which you should be clear by now from step 1).
One indicator I suggest my students to do is to go for the one platform with the most followers at the moment.
Step 3:
What are you selling?
When you’re building the online business on social media, it’s essential that we keep everything in congruent –
From the target customers, the platform, the message, the content to our offers, we need to keep everything congruent to make sales.
Everything needs to tie in and make sense in this digital marketing strategy.
E.g. if you’re targeting 7 figure business owners because you think they have more capability to pay higher price, but then the platform you choose is filled with Gen Z beginners starting out wanting to build a business, or your message is speaking to all coaches and entrepreneurs, it could be really confusing to the target customers.
Confusion = no sales.
So everything needs to be congruent, you need to be crystal clear on:
- who you’re serving?
- where are you showing up?
- what are you offering?
- what are you posting?
P.S. Do you want to build a side business that replaces 9–5 salary in a matter of months as well? I know the way to do it, speak with me whenever you’re ready so that I can get to know you more and help you come up with a realistic idea and plan step by step how to do that exactly
