A Chattanooga digital marketing expert lists 5 things to avoid to achieve LinkedIn success – Chattanooga Times Free Press

LinkedIn is more than the place to scramble when you’re on the job hunt. It’s also is a great community of colleagues and like-minded professionals to meet, learn and keep up with one another. However, with 310 million active monthly users, getting content noticed is challenging. Here are five tips on what not to do posting mistakes to avoid on LinkedIn.

Post boring content

LinkedIn isn’t looking for a steady stream of Super Bowl quality videos or groundbreaking updates out of every post, but unimportant links to old blog posts won’t cut it. The LinkedIn algorithm simply knows nobody will care. Consider posting people-rich images and videos that cause viewers to stop to consider the words in the post.

Fail to contribute regularly

The lifeblood of every social media platform is active users, however LinkedIn reports that only 16.2% of their users access the site daily. LinkedIn values regularity and incentives it by promoting content more from active users. Don’t have anything on your mind to post for yourself? Rather than disengage, consider engaging with other content!

Make it hard on the reader

Donald Miller, CEO of Storybrand, regularly teaches on the connection between the brain’s desire to conserve calories and readers’ attention span. Put simply, when we’re overwhelmed with information, it’s in our biology to tune out. Structure posts with a frame-breaking headline, easy-to-read chunks of information, and, if necessary, a clear call-to-action that fosters meaningful engagement.

Think it’s all about you

All relationships thrive on reciprocity. To build a network that engages with your content, be sure to do the same for others. Consider contributing to collaborative articles, congratulate your connections on their accomplishments, and provide your perspective on other users’ posts. We’re drawn to people who care about us, so give more than you take.

Expect overnight success

LinkedIn growth takes time. Even “viral” sensations typically had a previous reputation from their career other other platforms. Achieving success on LinkedIn means being a regular part of a community. To get the full benefit of LinkedIn, dedicate consistent time to the platform. You’ll learn more from others, have richer connections, and actually enjoy yourself!
