Why I’ll Never Subscribe to Online Gurus and Their Mentorship
Life is a never-ending rat race from the moment you realize you’re an adult. We’re all chasing after more — more time, more freedom, more money, more of everything. And as someone who’s always wanted more out of life, I’ve embraced the idea of entrepreneurship. Like so many others, I’ve looked for ways to make money online, hoping to break free from the daily grind.
But the online space is brutal, and the so-called gurus out there are only fleecing the “would-be entrepreneurs” they claim to help. They promise that all you need to do is buy their course, and you’ll start raking in thousands just like they do. What they conveniently forget (or deliberately forget) to mention is that every business has its own learning curve, and success doesn’t happen overnight.
I’ll admit, I was a victim once or twice, I’ve been seduced by their promises. But I still consider myself one of the lucky few who caught on to their game in time — the gurus make most of their money by selling courses. That’s just it. Most of them are not actually running successful businesses themselves; they’re profiting off of the dreams and aspirations of others, just like this sad story on reddit.
Take, for instance, a gurus telling his dropshiping students to sell on Shopify doesn’t even care if the student will run at a loss as long as he gets those affiliate commissions from shopify. They don’t even bother to find out if that platform would be the best fit for that particular business. Whereas a simple tool like the Etsy vs. Shopify calculator could show that the business is doomed from the start, but many hopeful entrepreneurs don’t know about these resources.
The truth is, there are no shortcuts to success. Building a sustainable business takes hard work, dedication, and a willingness to learn from your mistakes. It’s not about following some guru’s cookie-cutter formula; it’s about finding what works for you and your unique situation.
So, no, I’ll never subscribe to the online gurus and their mentorship programs again, there are way too many free resources on Youtube and some good ones on Udemy. I’ve learned my lesson the hard way, and I’m determined to forge my own path. The only person who can truly guide me to success is myself, and I’m not about to let some smooth-talking guru take advantage of my dreams ever again.
