How I Scaled My Course To $1k To $10k/Mth — My Mindset & Actionable Steps

I’m thrilled to be back in the groove of writing. Honestly, it’s one of the best parts of my day, and I’m glad to be sharing my journey with you as we roll into the fall.

As I reflect on my path, I’m laser-focused on my next big goal: reaching $100K per month in profit while working just three hours a day. But here’s the thing — I’m not fixated on that $100K figure. Instead, I’m dedicated to creating $1M worth of value, from which I can capture just 10%. That’s how I plan to scale CreatorScale into a seven-figure community.

Why Consulting?

I chose consulting because my favorite part of business is helping people directly. Sure, I’ll launch courses, toolkits, and more workshops down the line, but what really fuels me is the relationships I build with my clients. Some people dream of selling a course and living on a beach, and while that’s a nice lifestyle, it’s just not for me.

The day I came back to consulting, I hopped on a 1-on-1 call with a client who had some stellar news — he’d hit the $20K per month mark. Now we’re brainstorming his next steps, and that’s exactly what I love doing. Building stuff with people and watching them win is what drives me. Maybe it’s selfish, but seeing my clients take action and succeed feels incredible.

This model isn’t for everyone, but it works for me because it allows me to help people in a meaningful way. I get to package up my expertise, create content, share what I know, help thousands for free, and work closely with a few to make life-changing money together. Some people prefer courses or low-ticket communities, and that’s fine. But I’m just building the business that I want to build — one that gives me freedom both outside and inside the business.

My Promises to Myself as I Scale

  1. I won’t excessively hire because I enjoy working directly with clients.
  2. I’ll cap my spots so I know everyone personally.
  3. I won’t accept any “non-perfect” fits because I spend hours with each client.
  4. Taking care of myself is a priority because I can’t give my clients time and energy if I don’t have it myself.
  5. I’ll focus on improving the program before the marketing, because if the program gets better, the marketing naturally follows.

These are my rules. They may not work for everyone, but they align with my values and goals. Instead of working with hundreds of people to hit $100K per month, I’d rather work with a handful of people I love and know well. That’s the plan as we go full swing into fall.

Staying True to My Principles

This approach also means staying true to my principles, especially when it’s tempting to let subpar clients in after a slow month. As consultants, we run people-focused businesses, and they only work when the people are awesome. That’s why I’m making my program application-only soon. I’ll get to be selective, and only those who truly fit will be let in.

I’m not exaggerating when I say we’ve tracked 500 interested leads in the last 45 days, so lead flow isn’t an issue. But I’m not in a rush to hit $100K per month. I know I’ll get there — it’s just a matter of when. In the meantime, I’m prioritizing what truly matters as I scale. Instead of putting family, travel, and music on the backburner, I’m building a business that enhances my lifestyle rather than hinders it.

Building a True Freedom Business

For me, a true “freedom business” isn’t about sitting on the beach all day. It’s about enjoying the work itself. After all, $100K per month isn’t just about the number — it’s about getting there my way. And I believe you’ll get there your way too because your principles matter.

Right now, I’m in a really fun season of business. For the longest time, business was about what you “have” to do. Now, it’s about what I get to do, and it feels great. To get the business wheels rolling, you need to do the basics — and get good at them. Once you break past that, you get to the fun part, where you can choose where to take your business. It’s a different approach from the traditional hustle and scale mindset.

Innovating for Growth

As I’ve been coasting between $30K-$40K per month, I’ve also been doing some fun stuff — performing at Carnegie Hall, hanging out with family, and traveling Asia. If I were stuck in hustle mode, this would hurt my business. But because I’ve built my business around my life, enjoying life actually leads to growth in business. It might sound strange, but spending time outside of business keeps me in the zone when I’m working.

For example, I’ve been pioneering a new idea for the coaching and consulting space. This only happened because I had the time to think and reflect. When I shared the idea with a friend, he told me, “I think you’ve just invented something new.” I can’t reveal too much just yet, but I hope you can tell that I’m super excited.

So, it’s time to dive headfirst into experimenting as we steamroll into fall. This is how businesses grow — not just financially, but in terms of solving problems and innovating. Real innovation happens when you come up with creative solutions to novel problems. And often, solving problems works best when there are constraints.

I know the schedule I want, the type of people I want to work with, and the path to seven figures. Now, it’s all about thinking, testing, and repeating. Being strategic with my work, jumping over the hurdles that come — but not always in the conventional way. Sometimes, it’s about going under or around them. That’s what creative innovation is all about.

I firmly believe that the best entrepreneurs are creative thinkers. Piano has definitely helped me in my business journey — you need to think outside the box to achieve outside-the-box results. So, get out there and innovate. It’s the key to building not just a successful business, but one that aligns with who you are and the life you want to live.
