I Sold 10 Digital Products on 3 Websites and Made $43 from 2 of Them
And 3rd one made me…
So, how much did I make after selling digital products for one month
- Design Cuts
- Creative Market
- Etsy
I uploaded 10 digital products — all the same products — across Creative Market, Design Cuts, and Etsy to see how they would do, and I basically did zero marketing, zero promoting. So here’s the breakdown:
Design Cuts:
After 30 days on Design Cuts, I made $27. I sold my
- One font four times
- One floral skull pack
- One Christian illustrations pack
- One fantasy pixel icon set
It’s cool to see that there is a variety of sets being sold on Design Cuts, as opposed to just one product that keeps selling. However, it’s pretty obvious that fonts reign supreme.
Creative Market:
Now, Creative Market is a much more widely used and reputable site, in my opinion.
However, I made zero dollars in 30 days on Creative Market.
I got some views, I got some saves on some items, and some favorites — things like that — but zero sales.
This is super interesting to me because clearly some people are searching for the type of products that I’m listing on Design Cuts.
It’s weird that they’re not finding the same exact product, same words, same thumbnail, same everything on Creative Market .
So, it feels like they would do a much better job of promoting or supporting new or small creators — especially after they know you’re serious about selling your products, and it’s such an extensive application process.
I’m not complaining about not making a sale in 30 days. The amount of sales I’ve had on Design Cuts is bonkers to me. It’s just really weird that Creative Market is not having the same kind of traction that Design Cuts almost immediately had.
Etsy:
Here’s what’s even more interesting: I’ve made some great sales on Etsy as well. The breakdown was:
- Two of my Y2K packs
- One floral skulls pack
- Two of the Christian illustration packs
- One grainy gradients pack
For a total of $16.46, which definitely covers the 20-cent listing fees for each product.
So, after 30 days, my total is $43.46. So, I am basically rich now!
Conclusion:
While these stats and sales don’t seem impressive, what we do have here is a proof of concept. With a quality item, a pack, quality thumbnails, and good SEO in your description, you have a proof of concept that
you can start to generate sales in as little as 30 days with digital products.
As far as Creative Market goes, I’ve heard from some friends that
It can take up to six to seven months for things to actually start getting into the algorithm
which seems like a long time and a little bit annoying.
Etsy vs. Design Cuts vs. Creative Market:
One thing that I think Etsy has over both of these is the ability to advertise and run a sale whenever you want.
I can easily apply 20%, 30%, even 50% off on the entire digital products like that and then turn it off.
As well, I can run a one or two-dollar ad on any product I want for one day, and I can turn it off just as easily the next day.
I don’t know how to run a sales campaign on Creative Market or Design Cuts, so if there is a thing like that, please let me know in the comments if you’ve been selling on Design Cuts or Creative Market.
It might be worth your time to go ahead and open up that third shop on Etsy as a digital products shop and start running some sales.
Final Thoughts:
So anyway, there you have it: 30 days, $43.
I hope this story was helpful for you, and if it was, let me know down in the comments! I’d love to know your thoughts, and don’t forget to follow me because I will reveal more things in future.
And give it a clap or two as well.
Bye! Thank you.
