Why I’m Starting Over with Substack
How I’m turning uncertainty into opportunity — and why you can too
Have you noticed? The Medium dream feels like it’s running out of steam.
I see it all across the platform — what once felt like a gold rush now feels more like scavenging.
- Lower earnings
- Partner program revocations
- Uncertainty
What’s next?
I get it. Medium gave us a space to write, connect, and even earn. But here’s the thing: depending on a platform that can pull the rug out at any moment?
That’s a gamble.
Be honest here: most of us write because we love it. But also because we dream of building something bigger — something sustainable.
That’s why I’m starting over.
I’ve decided to relaunch on Substack. No, not as a replacement for Medium. As a foundation for something new. Something that puts the control back in my hands. And maybe yours, too.
We all have knowledge that solves problems
Since my presence on X it has become very clear to me that knowledge is business.
What if the very experiences and skills you’ve been sharing for free are exactly what someone else is willing to pay for?
People aren’t just looking for information. They’re looking for solutions. Real, actionable help for the problems that keep them up at night.
Think about it:
- What challenges have you faced and overcome?
- What skills have you mastered through trial and error?
- What problems have you solved for yourself or others?
Chances are, there’s someone out there struggling with the exact same thing, desperate for guidance.
That’s where the magic happens. By identifying those pain points and packaging your hard-earned knowledge you’re not just putting a price on your expertise — you’re providing real value that changes lives.
From problems to paid solutions
My plan is simple: On Substack, I’ll continue to share free content. But some emails will contain certain knowledge that I want people to pay for.
And some free emails could for example lead to a digital product or course I sell elsewhere (think of Gumroad) for people who want to dive extra deep into certain topics.
But here’s the real game-changer: you stay connected.
Even if platforms change their rules or pull the plug (yes, Medium, I’m looking at you), your email list is yours to keep.
Your email list is:
- Your safety net.
- Your direct connection to value.
- Your audience’s gateway to paid resources like e-books or templates.
People, the time to take action is now.
Don’t get me wrong; I’m not leaving Medium. I still love this place. No matter how little or how much I earn, it’s still part of building an online business for me.
With my recent start on X and my soon-to-be Substack re-launch, I’m just expanding my online presence and building my solopreneurship dream. I’m working on the preparations. It’s so very necessary.
Why?
Because it would be fucking naive to think a ban or a revocation will never happen to me. You just never know. I bet the people who experienced this didn’t see it coming. They just logged in as they do on any other day, and boom. Or perhaps they got an email.
I’d rather wake up to something else.
And let’s be honest — the damn algorithm isn’t helping either.
If you’re tired of chasing algorithm dreams and want to start owning your writing journey, I’d love for you to join me.
