The Online Game: How Personal Branding Is Your Way To Win
Let’s take a minute to look at the online landscape. Social media is being flooded with content from marketers trying to build up their own brands, private communities are springing up that require payment or sign-up information, and influencers are able to direct large audiences to take specific actions.
These are just a few simple observations, but why is all this happening and what does it mean? Welcome to the beginning stages of the big online game.
Create Your Character
In this game, you first have to realize that you’re in a game, to begin with.
It’s almost as if instead of putting a few quarters into an arcade game you have to just look around, notice a few things, then BOOM you’re in.
So are you ready to play? Let’s start off with creating your character. What do you want to identify as online?
We should go over a few things before you answer this question though because this can very well dictate how you level up and where you end up in life.
It’s not hard to create a player in this game, because the character is you.
Just to give you a reference to the types of players in this game, I recently created one:
Name: Luke Preston
Age: 21
Occupation: Student
Expertise: Web Development, Web Design, Digital Marketing, SEO, Copywriting, Sales
Attributes: Futurist, funny, patient, outgoing, empathetic, hardworking, relatable
Target Audience: GenZ & Alpha Entrepreneurs
My Story: Documenting my journey to 9 figures by 30 years old with the help of nothing but trying and failing while meeting some cool people along the way.
Some important tips when creating your character: What skills do you have that make you stand out? Do these skills interest any specific type of people? How would you describe yourself? If you had to write about something for multiple years, what would it be?
Once you do create your character you spawn right into the game. Welcome!
If you look around you’ll see a whole bunch of social media platforms, apps, and online resources at your disposal.
The goal of the game is to level up, and your online brand is the key indicator for what determines what level you are.
Your level dictates your real-life level of success.
It shows others who you know, who you’ve influenced, what you’ve done, and your overall net worth.
That’s why everyone is striving to get as high a level as possible because the game’s algorithm specifically rewards people with higher levels with more opportunities, money, and connections.
It’s interesting how the developers were able to create something so unique.
The more you grow your brand online, the better.
Level value is indicated by the amount of impact certain instances have on your daily life that has occurred because of your online brand.
For example:
+ Invited to Exclusive Online Community
+ Reached a certain following benchmark
+ Received a Project Opportunity
+ Online Relationship
+ Income
So how do you use your only weapon (which is your online brand) to its maximum potential? Let’s find out.
Online Branding Cheat Codes
Fortunately, the creators of this online game didn’t patch all the bugs, and I know a few cheat codes. So, here they are:
- Do things and expect nothing in return
For some odd reason when you come to a consensus with yourself when building your online brand with no expectations or wants and just solely help others, you get rewarded.
Whether that’s answering Reddit questions, producing valuable and thought-out content, or praising others for their achievements, it all comes back in full swing.
As long as you’re genuine in your approach, and actually care and feel for others, they’ll care about you and what you do.
2. Valuable content
There are a lot of firm believers in the game with the misconception of producing content that’s heavy in quantity > quality to toy with the game’s algorithm to level up faster.
But the game is smart, and it knows junk when it sees it.
When players write and write about prewritten subjects that others have already touched upon as well as nonsense, the game shows no rewards.
Even if you are publishing content every hour on every platform.
If it’s not interesting or valuable, the game won’t allow you to get seen and therefore you will fail to gain any additional XP.
3. Really work on your target audience
The hope of every online brand is to build an audience. But what kind of audience would you like to have?
Really understanding who your content is for, and what you want that to look like is super important.
Dive into some thoughts about who would really find your content useful or interesting, as well as what difference you can make to who.
If done correctly, this can be seen as one of the biggest cheat codes in the game.
Having a large audience not only gets you noticed more, but also puts you in a position of trust and influence.
4. Have patience
The creators of this game really wanted to separate the real users from the one-time users.
They put together a system that requires the user to work through an abstract number of levels in the game consistently.
The first few levels are some of the hardest levels, for this specific reason.
The only way to get through all these levels is by having a lot of patience through consistent work and effort.
The ability to stick with the game through some of the hardest levels shows the creators your determination and love for the game, therefore granting you access to easier levels along the way.
The Games Future
The way I see the future of the game is that the high-level players who have played the game the longest will have the most influence, money, and power throughout the world.
But there’s no need to worry, it’s very hard to be one of these top players if you’re uninteresting, evil, or cruel.
The game simply won’t allow it, their presence either never begins or diminishes if it has.
I think more in the realm of the movie Ready Player One for where this game may lead to.
Plopping on a form of VR technology and having access or restrictions to certain features in the world based on your online brand.
If you have a reputation, you will have access to exclusive events and communities, maybe it’s an exclusive podcast with the top 1% of the game.
It all depends on what you’ve done for the game, and the rewards you have taken part in.
As technology becomes more advanced, the way you experience the game does as well.
Only certain level players can create private worlds, experiencing specific locations will depend on cost or brand identification, and the level of service you receive is all about who you are and what you own.
While others are starting to begin their journeys in the game, you will have already spent the time and effort building your own empire.
Author Notes
This is just my take on the world, this doesn’t mean I’m right or wrong, I just thought it’s a very interesting subject to think about. Regardless, I do really believe in personal branding and the outlook and current potential it already has. I challenge you to get started in this fun game just like me! Hope to see you online!
All love!
