Will Amazon Continue To Be Future Of Delivery Retail?
-> Amazon pioneered e-commerce and new era of retail. Can there be a new challenger in the times of Mobile Computing + Gig Economy?
-> Seems far fetched, but I see three possible contenders in future of digital-retail: DoorDash, Uber, InstaCart. Each of these apps have their advantages and limitations.
- > But what makes them compete against Amazon at all?
a) Last mile delivery is gaining traction. - b) All these apps are acting as Retail Aggregators. From food delivery to every day grocery and expected retail items.
- C) The gig workers on the ground pick up expected items and deliver same day in most cases.
- d) Majority of inventory, supply chain, maintenance costs are eliminated in this model.
-> Which of the 3 apps is likely to emerge as the dominating force?
a.) Uber has the highest consumer connect and brand recall. Focused on cabs and food delivery with some add on retail around wines, healthcare, beauty.
b.) InstaCart is heavily focused on grocery retail with some add on stores like Sephora and CVS. It can continue to add more
c.) DoorDash currently seems to be aiming big and extreme. Covering more than 95% of common and un-common retail expectations. Covering wines, healthcare, home supplies, pet care and even stores like Tractor supply! Some of this may just be an experiment, but they are live experiences in their mobile app at the moment.
-> Does it make sense? What are your thoughts on this?
P.S. I’ll follow up with deeper review of the DoorDash app.
