In recent endeavours, I’ve embarked on a journey to increase my visibility as a freelancer. This led me to immerse myself in the world of digital marketing. Here are some simplified insights I unearthed about digital marketing that I’d like to share with you.

Digital marketing, also known as online marketing, is the use of digital channels and technologies to promote a product, service, or brand. It encompasses a wide range of activities, including:

1. Search engine optimization (SEO)

Ensuring your website appears prominently in search engine results when people search for relevant keywords.

2. Content marketing

Creating and publishing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and engage a clearly defined audience.

3. Social media marketing

Using social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and X (used to be known as Twitter) to connect with potential customers, build brand awareness, and drive traffic to your website.

4. Email marketing

Sending email campaigns to build relationships with subscribers, promote products or services, and drive conversions.

5. Paid advertising

Utilising paid advertising platforms like Google Ads and social media advertising to reach a wider audience and target specific demographics.

6. Influencer marketing

Partnering with influential individuals to promote your brand and products to their followers.

7. Video marketing

Creating and sharing engaging videos to educate, entertain, and inspire your audience.

Digital marketing offers numerous advantages over traditional marketing methods:

1. Measurable results

Digital marketing campaigns can be tracked and analysed in real-time, enabling businesses to measure the effectiveness of their campaigns and make data-driven decisions.

2. Targeted reach

Digital marketing allows businesses to reach specific demographics and interests, ensuring that their messages are seen by the most relevant audience.

3. Cost-effectiveness

Digital marketing can be highly cost-effective, especially when compared to traditional advertising methods.

4. Global reach

Digital marketing has no geographical boundaries, allowing businesses to reach a global audience.

As the world becomes increasingly digital, digital marketing has become an essential tool for businesses of all sizes to connect with their customers, build brand awareness, and drive sales.

These are just a few things I’ve learnt so far about digital marketing.
